Data Altered Art By cici artist Here you can view the video I submitted to the Guggenheim Museum /YouTube Play project. The entire film was created in the short window of time based on the submission dates (and my available time) in July 2010. I have been working on the Data Altering concept for a few years now...and decided to document my Data Altered Art for this film entry. I am in the process of adding more Data Altered Art to my website... to see last year's Data Altered Art CLICK HERE. (Just as a note.. adding this project to this website is a bit complex because of the shear volume of images that are generated in my Altering process... but I hope to come up with a better format to display the work I've done and ... have it up soon). Can Data (Stock Market Data, Weather Data, Distance Data) be used to dynamically Alter Art? In this low budget documentary video, created in July 2010, I "play" with this question/concept of Data Altering Art. I created algorithms to dynamically drive the altering process using free (Open Source) internet technologies and data. Stock Market Data is used to Alter the components of a painted face; Weather Data Alters the color and intensity of a section of the canvas and the concept of Altering the saturation of a section of the artwork based on the distance a viewer is from the artwork (Distance Data) is demonstrated. I use my latest acrylic painting - "The Big Cats Orchestra" - acrylic and ink, 60 ft x 6 ft as the basis for the alterations. I use MySQL and PHP for the database and programming the Data Altering. A combination of other software tools/simple techniques was used for the video itself:, Photoshop, Sony Vegas Movie Studio 10.0 HD Platinum, Sheets over the wall and couch for green screening. |
